Laying foundation stone of Kasterlinden expansion

The Flemish Community Commission (FCC) is expanding its Kasterlinden school campus in Sint-Agatha-Berchem. This campus for special education consists of an elementary school with an infant and primary section, a secondary school and a multifunctional center. A few years ago we completed the construction of the school and today it is time to expand. A new project for which we are once again trusted.

On Friday, May 17, we laid the symbolic foundation stone for the expansion with, among others, Brussels Minister Sven Gatz, who is responsible in the FCC for Education and School Construction, Mayor Christian Lamouline, CEO Wim Straetmans, our appointed site team and some students and teachers from Kasterlinden itself.

The students and teachers made sure to hand over a time capsule that will be incorporated into the construction. A time capsule that they may find in a few years and contains a lot of information about this time zone.

In addition, the hands of all parties involved were also immortalized in a square meter of concrete. This too will get a nice spot once construction has started.

There will be room for fifty additional special elementary school students. There will also be ten additional places in the boarding school and for thirty places day care for pupils in a difficult situation.

The demand for special education is high, both in Brussels and in the Rand. With this extension, the FCC meets this demand," said Brussels Minister Sven Gatz (Open VLD), responsible in the FCC for Education and School Construction.

By the end of 2025, students will be able to move into the new infrastructure on Campus Kasterlinden.
