New South is a new urban neighborhood in the making in the south of Antwerp, the "neighborhood of the future."

Nieuw Zuid is a visionary urban development in a prime location in Antwerp. The project area is located on the banks of the Scheldt and next to trendy Zuid, between the Scheldt quays, Namenstraat, Jan van Gentstraat, Brusselstraat and the Ring Road. It offers excellent accessibility by car and public transportation.

The master plan of New South is by Secchi-Viganò, an architecture and urban development firm of world renown. A livable, green urban neighborhood with stores, schools, nurseries and all facilities, pedestrianized and with a large central park. All the buildings are connected by the central promenade and planted in such a way that they are in direct relation to the Scheldt, the city, or the nearby greenery. They breathe light and space, and have a striking architecture with an eye for greenery and sustainability.

Landscape architect Bas Smets drew the green design of Nieuw Zuid, and was also allowed to determine the implantation of the buildings. With the landscape as the starting point, nature really takes center stage at Nieuw Zuid. 12 ha of nature offer a vast central park, inner gardens, play areas, bicycle paths and pedestrian roads. Green links throughout the new urban district provide a connection between the large park space and the Scheldt River.

Nieuw Zuid is an innovative residential site that excels in sustainability. For the entire site, the city of Antwerp has installed an external heat network that supplies heat to every building by using renewable energy. Thanks to extensive insulation, Nieuw Zuid easily achieves the energy passive standard. All homes are also equipped with the most heat-recovery ventilation system on the market. Solar panels, green roofs, and many other eco-friendly measures also contribute to the sustainable philosophy of this green residential area on the Scheldt.

The first construction work on Nieuw Zuid began in December 2013, with the Kaai Nieuw Zuid already completed by Interbuild. The development will be done in phases from north to south, so that the first parts that will be ready will immediately connect to the city. The full realization of New South will take at least 15 years.
